This year is very special to MSPAA, MSP, and our state. We celebrate 50 Years of Sworn Women in Law Enforcement. These fine young women took the oath of office to protect and serve the citizens of Maryland. We know that it was difficult for each of them to enter a dominant male society and only expect to be treated “equally.” I am honored and appreciative of their service to the citizens of Maryland.

During March we recognize and thank all the women that have served the Maryland State Police and other branches of state service. If not for the civilian staff that daily keeps the “engine running” we would not have a State Police or a government. I want to thank a few strong women from the State Police. Leaders like Betty Williams, Karen Siegman, Fran Campbell, Florence Johnson, Marionette Shorter, and so many others. You know that coworker, administrative associate, emergency dispatcher, and other civilian staff members that worked by your side during your career. What a positive difference each of them made in the workplace.
When I came on as a Trooper, my “safety net” and supporting coworker was former PCO Mrs. Kay Taylor. She dispatched the call for service, guided each of our troopers during their tour of duty, and took care of her troopers like they were her own children. We were a family. She was a blessing to so many. That one person that you looked forward to when you came to the barrack. Thank you Kay.
Thank you to the beautiful spouses and significant others that support our troopers and retirees everyday. We appreciate you. These significant others praised our successes and comforted our losses. They held us up above any award or certificate. They too are “Maryland’s Finest.”
