We respectfully report the loss of a MSP Retiree and Veteran. Retired TFC George Ward III departed from this life on March 2, 2025 at the age of 75. George had been residing in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

OBITUARY

George Elvin Ward, III, of Annapolis, MD, and Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away on March 2, 2025, of a cardiac event.

He was born on June 21, 1949, to Isabel and George E. Ward, Jr., of Annapolis, MD. George, also known as Georgie, graduated from Annapolis High School in 1967 and joined the U.S. Army where he served as a combat medic with the 5th Special Forces Group. George was awarded the prestigious Soldier’s Medal; the Bronze Star Medal with two bronze service stars and arrowhead device; the Purple Heart Medal with oak leaf cluster; and numerous additional Vietnam War campaign medals.

Upon leaving the Army, George continued his service as a trooper with the Maryland State Police for 23 years with many career achievements and awards. Before he retired in 1993 he served in numerous positions to include road trooper and administration support at Headquarters. He was the proudest of his time as a helicopter medic with the Maryland State Police Aviation Command, and his assignment in the Executive Protection Division during the Schaefer administration. After retirement, George dabbled in various jobs from Deputy Harbor Master at the Annapolis, MD, City Docks, Supervisor at G4S Security, Blacksburg, VA, and an Officer with the Folly Beach Police Department in SC.

George is survived by his daughters, Michelle Marie Calk (Howard) and Kathleen Marie Ward (Sean Fugh). He was proud to be called PopPop by his grandchildren, Jaxson and Gabriella Calk and Lucy Fugh. He also leaves his sister, Carol Ann Clark (Leonard) and brother, William Ward (Cindy); along with his nephews and nieces, Ritchie and Alex Goodman, Kristin and Kimberly Ward, Casey and Matt Howerton, Séan Pope, and Matthew Medina. George never met a stranger and had countless friends who became family.

A celebration of life will be held at the West Annapolis Fire Station 40 (121 Jennifer Rd., Annapolis, MD) on Saturday, April 12th from 12:30pm – 3:30pm. Please feel free to wear colors to celebrate Georgie’s colorful, well-loved and meaningful life. Please no flowers. If you would like, please make a donation in George’s memory to West Annapolis Fire Station 40, where he was a volunteer, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
