OBITUARY
Richard Eugene Edwards, Sr., 86, of Swanton, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Born on August 12, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry and Kathaleen (Davis) Edwards.

Richard graduated from Southern High School in 1956, and after three years of serving his country in the United States Army, Richard joined the Maryland State Police, where he served for 22 years until his retirement in 1985, earning the rank of Sergeant.

As snowbirds, he and his wife traveled south to Florida for the winter and enjoyed stopping to visit family on the way. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, watching the Baltimore Orioles, relaxing in his recliner, playing cards, throwing horseshoes, southern cooked dinners at the senior center, and he always kept a very meticulous lawn.

He is survived by his wife, Kay (Weeks) Edwards, to whom he was married on August 22, 1958; three children, Richard Edwards Jr. and wife Bonnie of Oakland, Ronald Edwards and wife Misuzu of Buchanan, TN, and Cynthia Steyer and husband Jerry of Murfreesboro, TN; seven grandchildren, Steven Edwards, Brian Edwards, David Steyer, Nathan Steyer, Amy Sharpless, Leanna Edwards and Eric Edwards; eleven great grandchildren, Tanner, Kane, Peyton, Jimmy Jr., Reese, Reagan, Briley, Cawaan, Audrey, Calvin and Dalton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Edwards, III.

Friends will be received on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St. Oakland. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11 AM in the Deep Creek Baptist Church, 19841 Garrett Highway, Oakland. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery with military honors and Maryland State Police honors.
