Edward Andrew Gawthrop
February 11, 1937 – August 16, 2023
Edward A. Gawthrop, “Mr. Ed/Pop” 86, of White Plains, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Sagepoint Senior Living Center.
Born February 11, 1937, in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Arthur “Tommy” and Josephine Gawthrop. Ed grew up in Indian Head, MD and graduated from Lackey High School in 1955, Salutatorian. He served 4 years in the Army Reserves. In 1965, Ed joined the Maryland State Trooper police force, serving both the Waldorf and Leonardtown Barracks before retiring in 1983. After his retirement from the Maryland State Police, Ed continued his career working for Miller Cabinetry in Loveville, MD before finishing his career at Sharper’s Florist in Oxon Hill, MD.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his granddaughter Brentanie Marie Schuhart and nephew Andrew “Drew” Gawthrop.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marybeth Gawthrop. His children Tracy Burgess, Washington; Terri Gawthrop-Schmidt, Waldorf; Randy Gawthrop, LaPlata; Neil Gawthrop (Kathy), Florida; Gary Gawthrop, White Plains; Chrissy Beuchert, Hughesville and Connie Wood (Keith), Hughesville. Ed leaves behind ten grandchildren: Michelle Mattingly (Charlie), Ashley Gawthrop, Megan Gawthrop (Sean), Rachel Gawthrop, Ryan Gawthrop, Jack Burgess, Kyle Gawthrop, Keith Wood II, Jasmine Hawkins and four great-grandchildren. His siblings; Susan Watson, South Carolina; Jean Shickman (John), Delaware and Philip Gawthrop (Mary Anne), South Carolina. He is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ed enjoyed in his spare time gardening, woodworking, watching sports and spending time with his family.
