We regret to inform you of the sudden passing of Officer Bradley Edward Spickler, age 30, of the Montgomery County Police Department. Spickler died on April 30, 2025 and is the son of MSP Retired Sgt. Gregory Spickler and Cindy Spickler of Smithsburg, MD.

Our deepest condolences for the family and friends that this fine young man leaves behind. He was one of our peacemakers who gave his all for our community. May God Bless his family at this time of their loss.

OBITUARY

Bradley Edward Spickler, 30, of Frederick, MD and formerly of Smithsburg, MD, passed away, Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at his home.

Born Tuesday, May 31, 1994, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of Gregory E. Spickler and Cindy S. (Mowery) Spickler of Smithsburg, MD.

Brad graduated from Smithsburg High School in 2012 where he received multiple accolades, including Deputy Christopher Nicholson scholarship, Western Maryland Trooper Association scholarship and the Carroll and Virginia Reid scholarship. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science from Shenandoah University in 2016. During his time at Shenandoah, he was a proud member of the university’s baseball team, the Shenandoah Hornets.

Following college, Brad began his career with the Montgomery County Police Department, where he dedicated himself to public service.

Aviation was one of Brad’s many passions, and in 2018, he fulfilled a longtime goal by earning his private pilot’s license. He was also a devoted member of Otterbein Church in Waynesboro.

Brad lived an active life and had a deep love for sports. Over the years, he participated in baseball, basketball, football, golf, and more recently, enjoyed playing soccer and pickle ball.

Besides his parents he is survived by his sister, Alexis N. Thomas and husband Chance, paternal grandmother, Bonnie B. Spickler, aunt, Kathy L. Oberholzer (Alan), uncle, Steven L. Spickler (Joni), aunts Tammy M. Earhart and Kathy L. Huntsberry, uncle, Glenn M. Mowery (Diane), Godparents, Morris “Tinker” & Judy Shank, and numerous cousins, and his special canine pal their Chocolate Lab, Major.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Bud (Pappy) Spickler, maternal grandparents, Helen and Glenn Mowery Sr, and his Aunt Terri Dawson.

SERVICES

Services were held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 am, at Otterbein Church of Waynesboro 912 South Potomac Street, Waynesboro, PA.with Pastor Mike Newman and Pastor Al Deal officiating.

The family received friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Thursday, May 8, 2025 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Community Foundation of Washington County, 19638 Leitersburg Pike Ste. 203 Hagerstown, MD 21742, where a memorial will be established in Brad’s honor.
