The MSPAA sadly announces the recent passing of one of “Maryland’s Finest,” Lt. Michael Gawrych.

OBITUARY
Michael Gawrych, 74, of Elkton, MD passed away at home surrounded by his daughters, Kristine and Julie on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born in Baltimore, MD on January 23, 1950, he was the son of the late Felix and Rose Lukowiak Gawrych.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, Mike served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972 before embarking on a distinguished career as a Maryland State Trooper, retiring as a lieutenant in 2003. Following his retirement, he continued to serve his community as a civilian with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office. Mike’s greatest joy came from his family, especially his grandsons, who filled his life with pride and always brought a smile to his face. He cherished every moment spent watching sports and sharing stories with them. We are so blessed to have called him Dad and Grandad. He will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his daughters, survivors include his son-in-law, Robert Dvorak; grandsons, Brady and Ben; and brother, Richard Gawrych (Pam). His dogs Belle, Millie and PennieSue were also a significant part of his life. He adored and spoiled them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Ann Marie Gawrych in 2016.
