The MSPAA sadly announces the recent passing of one of “Maryland’s Finest,” Lt. Colonel Roland Joseph Meerdter Sr., MDSP, Retired.

OBITUARY
Roland Joseph Meerdter Sr. of Milton, DE, formerly of Carroll County, MD, passed away on March 20, 2023, at home following a battle with long-term health issues.

Born Oct 8, 1946 in Baltimore MD, he is survived by his loving wife Christina and their children, Roland and Christina, of whom he was very proud. He had four grandchildren, Mia Elizabeth, Parker Austin, Roland Grey and Emerson George who he cherished. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Cecilia Chesno who was truly a sister to him.

Roland served in the Maryland State Police having graduated from the Academy in 1968 retiring as Lt. Col. after 29.5 years of service in 1997. Following his retirement, he worked at Copper Ridge and Fairhaven retirement communities. Expressing genuine interest in people, he was well-respected as a great listener and provider of discerning counsel. He was deeply involved in the community through volunteer service including the Carroll County Literacy Council, Carroll County Food Sunday, and Chairman of the Carroll County Liquor Board.

VISITATION
A visitation will be held at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Rd, Westminster, MD 21157, on March 31, 2023 from 3 to 5 p.m. followed by a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carroll County Food Sunday in Westminster.
