We regret to inform the membership of passing of Harvey Tyndal Casbarian Jr , age 93 of Chestertown, Md. on September 21, 2025. A distinguished career of service followed this legendary trooper, who served with the Maryland State Police from 1956 to 1960. Casbarian was one of the first founding members of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association, which was formed in 1960.
MSP Legacy members of his family include his son-in-law David K. Jones.

OBITUARY
Harvey Tyndal Casbarian, Jr. died September 21, 2025, at Heron Point in Chestertown, MD, he was 93.
A longtime former resident of Sherwood Forest, and a current resident of Heron Point in Chestertown, Mr. Casbarian was the Son of Harvey T. Casbarian and Louise W. Casbarian, born on May 27,1932, in Washington D.C.
Harv retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAFR where he served as a Navigator/Bombardier with the 445th BS, 321st BW a B-47 wing at McCoy AFB, Orlando, FL, and more recently, as an Instructor Navigator with the 135th Air Commando Group, MdANG, Martin State ANG Base, Baltimore, from 1962 to 1977. At the time of his retirement, he held the rating of Senior Navigator.
Additionally, Mr. Casbarian had been a Maryland State Trooper, stationed at College Park Post from 1956 to 1960 and always maintained that this was the best job he ever had. He was especially proud to have been a founding member in 1960 and former President of the Maryland State Police Alumni Association.

His final working years were as a Real Estate Broker/ Owner of Free State Properties, Inc., in Annapolis, and as a residential Real Estate Appraiser for Treffer & Assoc. in Arnold.
Mr. Casbarian is survived by a son, Steven Casbarian of Centreville, MD, Daughters Sally C. Kreber of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Elizabeth A. Jones of Little River, SC, a half-brother, James E., and five Grandchildren. His beloved wife of 53 years Ellen Carson Casbarian predeceased him in July 2009.
Mr. Casbarian spent his early years in Riverdale and Hyattsville in Prince George’s County and later, following a move to the West Coast, Graduated from Lakeside School in Seattle, Washington in 1950. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1955 with a BS degree in Journalism. He attended the Maryland State Police Academy, graduating in July 1956.
He was a life Loyal Tau of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. His earliest memories involve his association with the University of Maryland where his father was Comptroller under University President Curly Byrd. He spent 10 years with the University after leaving the State Police, first as Assistant Manager of the College Park Student Union and then seven years as Manager of the Student Union at the University’s Professional School campus in Baltimore.
A 40-plus year member of the Terrapin Club, (GO TERPS!), a life member of the Annapolis Yacht Club and Post 7, Crownsville, of the American Legion, he enjoyed golf with his regular foursome and “hoisting a cold one” with friends in Sherwood Forest, former troops or members of his Air Guard Unit.
